Revamping Gotrade funds

Background
Gotrade is a US stock trading app for Indonesian users, offering access to 600+ stocks with a low entry point of just $1, and trusted by over 1 million users under regulation from Indonesian authorities.
How it started
Users told us they struggled to find their uninvested cash and felt deposits and withdrawals lacked transparency: we didn’t show clear statuses or explain payment-provider edge cases. Left unaddressed, these issues led to a wave of one-star App Store reviews.

The Problem
Now that we knew what problems users were facing, we needed to synthesize what was wrong with the app in production that caused those concerns.
1
No overview of available cash
The Funds page didn’t show how much uninvested cash users had.
2
No transaction history details page to display
The transaction history page listed transactions but hid key details like exchange rates and timestamps, leaving users confused and questioning our transparency.
3
Transaction history hidden under an interaction
Transaction history sat behind this section and disappeared entirely for users with no completed transactions. First-time depositors couldn’t even see that their deposit was pending.
4
Key actions weren’t prioritized
Deposits and withdrawals accounted for over 93% of interactions on this page, yet they had the same visual weight as gift cards and transaction history.
Defining how users use the funds page
By connecting Claude to Mixpanel through MCP, I analyzed interaction rates for each feature on the Funds page to objectively prioritize actions.
Along the way, I noticed most users deposit the same amount via the same payment method every time, a pattern we could leverage to drive more deposits.

Iterations
The design went through several iterations, and not every decision was purely a UX one. Some were business trade-offs.

Across four iterations, feedback focused on keeping the familiar deposit and withdrawal icons to preserve muscle memory, giving Grow more prominence as a key Prestige conversion driver, and enlarging the balance while simplifying the title to “Funds” for a clearer hierarchy.
Tradeoffs
Grow could be distracting, and with under 1% of users interacting with it, the data alone didn’t justify giving it equal weight to deposit and withdrawal. But because it drives nearly half of Prestige conversions, stakeholders agreed to keep it as a primary action for now.
Design and solutions
The fifth iteration was eventually the final iteration to be accepted by all stakeholders.

We placed an uninvested cash overview at the top, followed by the most-used actions.
Grow was the exception to the data. It had low interaction, but it drove nearly half of all conversions to Prestige, Gotrade’s tier for power users with significant net worth or trading volume. Since earning interest was what drew them in, Grow earned a spot among the primary actions.

States for Grow feature
I designed two animated states for the Grow button. New users saw the APY on the button itself to encourage sign-up, while existing users saw their upcoming interest payout slide in and out below it.
Solution for

Transaction history now lives directly on the Funds page. At the top, users see only their balance. As they scroll down, the history snaps into full screen and filters appear, surfacing tools only when users are likely searching for a transaction.

Solution for
2
We simplified the transaction cards, merging in-progress and past transactions into one list with clearer statuses.
A new transaction details page shows the executed exchange rate, fees, timestamp, and a breakdown of how each amount is calculated, so users can see exactly where their money goes.
Repeat deposit feature
To build our users’ repeat behavior, we introduced Repeat Deposit, letting users skip straight to confirmation with their usual amount and payment method.
Launch and phases
With stakeholder pressure mounting, we shipped the revamped Funds page in phases, starting on the Gotrade Indonesia app. Phase one launched without transaction details so we could fix the most urgent user issues first. This was a trade-off driven by development constraints, since the data for the transaction details page wasn’t ready yet.
Outcome and Impact
App Store reviews from users complaining about deposit and withdrawal issues declined by nearly 70%.
Customer service inquiries about deposits, refunds and withdrawals dropped by more than 40%.
No further inquiries or feedback regarding free cash or uninvested cash were recorded.
Impression and interaction rates for transaction history increased by 1.6x compared with the previous design.
